AVEPM Graduate Student Travel Awards for ISVEE XII

From an e-mail sent out by the Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (AVEPM)

Dear colleagues,

Once again, the Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (AVEPM) is pleased to sponsor travel awards for graduate students enrolled in a field of study related to veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine who submit an abstract and are accepted for either oral or poster presentation at the 12th triennial International Symposium on Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (ISVEE XII) in Durban, South Africa from August 9th to 14th, 2009. The revised abstract submission date is now January 30, 2009 (see URL: www.isvee.co.za ). The notification of acceptance of abstracts is scheduled for on or before March 15, 2009. Therefore, the deadline for submission of all materials for the AVEPM graduate student travel competition will be April 1, 2009 (subject to change based on abstract notification dates). We expect to be able to provide notification to contestants no later than April 30, 2009, allowing sufficient time to procure reasonably priced travel to Durban.

This year, there will be 10 competitive travel awards available in the amount of $USD 2,000.00 each.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

1) The 10 awards will be presented based on panel review of a competitive submission of an ISVEE-accepted abstract. In addition, a 3-5 page (single-spaced, 12 point font, page limits include tables, figures, and references) proceedings-type paper also must be submitted to AVEPM for further judging of the merit of the research. Student abstracts and proceedings papers will be graded on the quality of the research and the clarity and presentation of the writing. Students must be actively enrolled in a graduate program at the time of ISVEE XII (i.e., not yet defended thesis/dissertation or graduated), and the work must not have been published in a peer-reviewed journal as of the dates of ISVEE XII (see above).

2) To be eligible, both the student and the student's advisor must be active members of the AVEPM as of April 1, 2009. Membership is open to individuals from all over the world. Instructions for becoming a member of AVEPM are available at the association website at: http://www.cvm.uiuc.edu/avepm/ .

Please submit a copy of your ISVEE XII abstract, notification of acceptance to the ISVEE meeting as either an oral or poster presentation, and a 3-5 page proceedings-type paper (ideally, in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format), as an attachment to an e-mail to H. Morgan Scott DVM, PhD no later than April 1, 2009 at:

hmscott@vet.k-state.edu

Papers will be assessed by a panel of judges comprised of faculty members of the AVEPM.
